YOUTH COACHING POSTS AT MOUSEHOLE AFC

Mousehole AFC are looking to recruit self-confident, committed and knowledgeable individuals to join our forward-looking coaching team as voluntary youth coaches.

The club has attracted massive interest in a short space of time and made a flying start to its new long-term plan to nurture young local talent under the leadership of full-time Director of Academy and Youth Development Jason Blunt, until recently coach at Leeds United.

Six youth teams have so far been created, with the prospect of more teams to complete the age-range from 5 to 16, and three-quarters of the available places in the new Elite Academy for 16-23 year olds have been filled.

These initiatives, promoted by the Endorsed Group, have resulted in Nike awarding ‘Partner Club’ status, and the club is establishing an Education Partnership with schools in the area.

Qualifications for the youth coaching roles include a Level 1 FA Coaching Award, First Aid, DBS/CRB check and Safeguarding certificate.

ELITE ACADEMY PROGRAMME 16-23s | A PROGRESS REPORT

REPORT BY JASON BLUNT, DIRECTOR OF ACADEMY

Update on the progress of the 16-23 year old players in the new Elite Programme

These are the 13 talented players we have so far selected for this ground-breaking programme:

LIAM ANDREW

YESHI BRIAR

LEWIS CASPALL

BEN CHAPMAN

FINN CROSS

NATHAN GOODSPEED

JOE GIBSON

LOUIS GRAHAM

JOSH OTTO

ADAM ROBATHAN

JOSHUA STOREY

TYLER TONKIN

BYRON WOOD

The group have settled in well, showing a positive attitude, a clear willingness to learn and an ability to absorb all the information and guidance given.
They have been tested in the FA’s “Four Corners” Coaching Development model: physical, technical, social and psychological.

We are at an early stage in their development, but they all have shown signs of rapid improvement in the main area they all need to work on: their technical ability.  But I am convinced, based on the evidence of my coaching experience, that the time and effort they put in will reap the rewards.
This will be a continuing theme across all the youth teams.

The players have been issued with “GPS vests”.  This technological wizardry measures a whole range of the individual’s performance – for example, heart rate, how far they’ve run, the number of high intensity sprints, and how heavy the workload is on the body.  The data we get from this tracking has allowed us to monitor their response to training, assess where they are up to physically, and adapt the training sessions accordingly.

(Nathan Goodspeed, Liam Andrew, Louis Graham, Byron Wood, Finn Cross and Yeshi Briar wearing their new GPS vests)

(Jason Blunt puts the players – and the GPS vests – to the test!)

One of the benefits of this system is it can prevent injuries: so far, we haven’t had any.

In First team pre-season fixtures these players have displayed courage and maturity to take risks when playing a possession-based game. Some of these lads are just 16, and don’t look out of their depth in any way.

It’s never too late to apply!  The Elite Programme can take up to around 18 players, and we’ll be looking to fill the remaining vacancies selectively over the next three months.  If you are interested, or know someone who might be, I’d be more than happy to be contacted in the first instance on 07985 614692, or by email on jason.blunt@sky.com

⦁ Next week we hope to announce the appointment to two new roles: Physiotherapist and Strength & Conditioning Coach.

PROGRESS ON YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PLANS

  • After the overwhelming success of the recent trials and training sessions, Mousehole AFC have created the following teams and affiliated, registered and entered them all into the Kernow Youth League for next season:
  • UNDER-9s
  • UNDER-10s
  • UNDER-11s
  • UNDER-12s (two teams)
  • UNDER-14s

A few weeks ago the club had no youth teams – now there are six!  Superb work by the coaches and everyone who’s supported them, and         congratulations to parents and not forgetting these important people: the youngsters themselves!

  • For the UNDER-8s, plans will be announced about a series of training sessions, as soon as training pitches are confirmed  – so please watch this space!
  • If any parents have any queries about any of this, please get in touch with Jason Blunt, Director of Academy & Youth Development, by ‘phone on 07985 614692, or by email to jason.blunt@sky.com  This includes anyone who may not have heard anything following the trials and training sessions (it’s possible we don’t yet have everyone’s accurate contact details).

PROGRESS REPORT ON THE FIRST TEAM SQUAD’S PRE-SEASON PROGRAMME

  • Three games played.  Three to go.

  • Won 1, Drawn 1, Lost 1, scored 5 (five different scorers), conceded 4

  • Player-Manager Steve Parker-Billinge says:  “It’s been a good start to the pre-season programme, in which we have really built on all the great news off the pitch.  We now showing signs of playing to a pattern to match the coaching style.  The lads – the established players, the 16-23 year olds in the Elite Programme and new signings – have all begun to adapt well to how we intend to play.  There’s still plenty more work to be done before the season starts in three weeks’ time, but I am very happy with our progress thus far”.

  • Saturday 8th July  – at Premier Division Callington Town.  Lost 1-2 (half-time 1-1) after taking the lead through a first-half Bradley Wills header

  • Saturday 15th July  – at Premier Division Newquay.  Drew 2-2 (HT 0-1) after being 2-0 in the lead with goals from Matt McIlroy after 28 minutes and Luke Johnson on 50.  To allow all squad members game-time, both sides made many changes in the last half hour, with the balance of play shifting slightly in the hosts’ favour – they equalised with goals after 71 and 81 minutes

  • Tuesday 18th July – at Pendeen Rovers, recently promoted to the Cornwall Combination League.  A hard-working 0-2 win (HT 0-2) with a headed goal from Ben Williams (28 minutes) and a lofted drive by Tyler Tonkin (35).

  • Next: at Premier Division Helston Athletic next Tuesday (25th), 7.30 kick off, First team only

  • Then:  at Premier Division Godolphin Atlantic on Saturday 29th KO 3pm, First team only

  • Followed by:  ‘double header’ at Premier Division Sticker (last season’s Division 1 West champions), First team KO 1.30pm,  Reserves KO 4pm.

  • Saturday 12th August: season’s league opener, away at St Dennis (3pm)
