Mousehole AFC are delighted to announce that Dom Angove has agreed to take over the leadership of the club’s under-18 team, assisted by Callum George and Nick Cooke, a move designed to strengthen the pathway between its flourishing Youth section and the successful senior teams.
Local lad Dom has a strong family connection to the club. His grandfather, Fred Spurr, was groundsman at Trungle Parc in the 1980s, and his father, Andy Angove, is remembered as one of Mousehole’s most celebrated and respected goalkeepers.
Like his father, Dom has made a name for himself with the gloves for several years and is currently the ‘keeper for Mousehole’s successful Development Team in the St Piran League. In his new role, he will be a member of the club’s football development staff, all working together to ensure the consistent application of best-practice coaching philosophy throughout all its teams.
Dom Angove holds several coaching qualifications, and has just completed a three-year period as Manager of West Cornwall Schools under-15s. He currently works as a PE Teacher at Camborne Science and International Academy.
Commenting on his new position, the 24-year-old is clearly excited by his new challenge:
“As soon as I was asked to get involved, I was certain it was something I wanted to be part of. I am really passionate about developing young players and helping to give them a pathway into the adult game – and this is the perfect club in which to do just that. We have a lot of talented young players in this area and my expectation is that this Under-18 set-up will help them transition into the Development Team and onwards to the First Team.”
Angove will be assisted by Nick Cooke, who was in charge of the U18s last season, and Callum George, the experienced ex-Penzance player now a member of the Mousehole Development squad but currently sidelined with a long-term injury.
Chairman Deryk Heywood commented:
“This terrific trio – Dom Angove, Callum George and Nick Cooke – has put the U18s set-up in a really great place. It’s so important for the younger players to see, and believe, there is a clear route for them through and into the Development Team and progression towards the First Team.”
The Seagulls’ under-18s will compete in the Cornwall Under-18 Premiership Division, playing many of their games on a Monday evening at Trungle Parc. The League features teams from a variety of the County’s top clubs, including Saltash United, Falmouth Town and Truro City.
Mousehole Manager Jake Ash has this to say about the appointment:
“I’ve seen first-hand through the West Cornwall District sides he’s run that Dom has great talent in engaging young players and creating a really positive environment. We should feel hugely privileged that he is going to do the same now at Mousehole with our U18s. I’m confident he’s going to develop the players and provide them with a brilliant experience both in the new League and in the national FA Youth Cup too.”
Mousehole’s Under-18s have been kindly sponsored for the 2023/24 season by locally-based internationally-operating company Wolf Jansen (SAP, Data and Digital Talent Experts).
