MATCH REPORT – MOUSEHOLE WOMEN vs PORTHLEVEN LADIES

MOUSEHOLE WOMEN 8-3 PORTHLEVEN LADIES

CORNWALL WOMEN’S LEAGUE, sponsored by Pirate FM

SUNDAY 26TH NOVEMBER 2017, AT MARAZION

SEAGULLS SWOOP FOR SEVENTH WIN OUT OF SEVEN

Mousehole Women maintained their 100% record with their seventh league win out of seven to add to their County Cup victory last week.

They remain in second place in the Cornwall Women’s League, three points behind last season’s unbeaten champions St Agnes with two games in hand, and five points ahead of third-place Helston who have also played two games more than The Seagulls.

Mousehole started on the front foot and almost scored with the first move of the game.  However, Porthleven had strengthened their side since the 13-0 defeat to Mousehole in the corresponding fixture at Gala Parc in September, and took the lead when a missed clearance in defence allowed their striker to run through and slot the ball home for an unexpected lead.

Chances came and went before Mousehole drew level, Katy Barker using her unstoppable speed to race on to a defence-splitting pass and fire into the net.

It was soon 2-1 to the hosts when once again Katy again terrorised the Porthleven right back and her cross was turned in for an own goal by a defender.

Sophie Wilson then got her customary goal to send Mousehole in at half time 3-1 to the good.

Mousehole could have been many more goals up but it was the way the team played that was the more pleasing feature.

Carly Jacka got her first goal of the game after a corner from the left which found her on the line to touch home for 4-1.

Jo Barker finally got the goal she deserved, running through on to the ball and rounding the ‘keeper before stroking the ball home.

Sophie Wilson and Carla Jacka each added their second goals to make the scoreline 7-1, Jacka’s coming direct from a free kick.

Megan Davison completed the scoring for Mousehole, but Porthleven never gave up, scoring two goals of their own, but too late to make an astonishing come back.

Mousehole Women:  Lyndsey Mayers (captain), Rosie Davison, Lucy Brown, Emma Hurworth, Tamara de Silva, Katy Barker, Sophie Wilson, Carly Jacka, Scarlett Clouter, Megan Davison, Jo Barker.

Mousehole now have three consecutive away League games before the Christmas break.  Next Sunday (3rd December) they travel to St Teath, followed by a trip to Charlestown on 10th, and then the ‘game of the season’ on 17th at St Agnes.  All League fixtures kick off at 2:30pm.
